Orange and green throughout. A white-gowned woman lies supine and half under the water, head fallen back to the right, hands open at the surface, reeds and flowering branches closing the frame.

“After” is the old gallery word for a work made in open conversation with another. It is a lineage, not a shortcut.

Measuring 30x22 inches, this is a 6-color screen print on white gallery stock. This art was also used on the recent Widespread Panic (Santa Barbara) print.

Regarding the striking imagery, Jermaine says:

'Poor, beautiful Mother. We push & pull at her. We take all we can carry and demand more...and she keeps on giving.

How long can it last? At some point, she will crawl onto her knees, with retching and tears. She is very old and very wise: she will understand the necessity of a purge. "As one incapable of her own distress..." - J.R.
