I've done some of my 'nature women' illustrations for previous WSP prints. These beings radiate their femininity and independence. They mirror the goddess feminine in the Universe...at one with nature, sprouting growth and bloom from their very bodies. This time, I wanted to render this same idea by celebrating a true life specimen, and a hero of mine: artist Frida Kahlo. To me, she was the ultimate natural cosmic female. Bold. Uncompromising. In your face. Unconcerned with what you thought was cool or 'in', or how you may have thought she looked...or 'should' look. She was 'true'. Fiercely so. Her 'third eye' was wide open. I felt it was a fitting subject for such a driven and uncompromising band like Widespread Panic. She was beautiful power.
