This print was commissioned by The Foo Fighters for a surprise show at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. The small venue setting made for a more intimate atmosphere, compared to the band’s usual stadium shows. This print commission provided Jermaine with an opportunity to create an image he’d wanted to make for years. Jermaine says: ‘A lot of my art heroes are comic book artists. These artists were my earliest teachers…anatomy, impact, color. Countless hours of studying comic book artwork gave me a real education in attempting to find a visual ‘sweet spot’ between a certain amount of realistic structure and a defining dose of personal style. One of my all-time favorite pieces of comic book art is the classic cover to Silver Surfer #4 created by the legendary John Buscema. It’s masterful. I’ve always wanted to pay homage with my take on the striking layout, and this gig finally gave me the chance. BTW, many of you will also recognize that the heroine pictured in this artwork is the same girl from the last Foo Fighters print (NYC 2024) that I did for the band. Our heroine is a bit more engaged this time around, doing her part to fight these insidious predators trying to ruin our home-grown good time. She’s a badass. Comic book covers are very similar to posters, you know. You’ve got one shot at maximum impact in a single image.
